Digital Archives Initiative FAQ
This new cloud-based version of the Digital Archives Initiative is a work in progress, and considerable time and effort is
going into it to make the transition from our traditional interface to the new one as seamless as possible. We ask for your
patience as we fix links and work on the operability of our new DAI interface. Below are some answers to questions you may
have about features and functionality. Please contact us if you have any comments, questions or concerns:
dai@mun.ca
Where can I find the
Title Search option that appeared on the former DAI main page?
The
Title Search box which appeared on the former DAI main page, is not available at this time.
It is possible to search titles by selecting
Advanced Search. Change "
All Fields" to
"Title" and change "
All of the Words" to "Exact Phrase". This works well if you know the exact title
of the resource you need. Keyword title searches are still possible by selecting "
All of the Words."
Where is the
Reference URL information?
The
Reference URL which appeared in the former DAI (to link directly to an item or to reference an item),
is not included in the new DAI. Please copy the URL from the browser address bar.
Where is the
Search Within Results box?
The
Search Within Results box is not available at this time. Go back to Advanced search and add a row for your additional term.
What's New?
Clicking on the
arrows [View] in the top right corner of a map, newspaper page, page from a book, etc.
will expand the page and allow you to zoom in and out for better viewing.
In order to see some pdfs in full (such as archival finding aids), expand by clicking on the
arrows [View]
or
download the pdf.
Once you are brought to a document in which your search term(s) appear, there is now a
Filtered button
that will only list the pages that contain those terms(s).
Clicking on the
printer icon will result in printing the image displayed plus the transcript,
the object description and the item description. Close out those sections that you don't want to print.
Did you know?
The Sponsor page (tab is on the main page) is useful for finding collections arranged by sponsoring institutions.
Collections have "landing pages" which have often been customized to assist you in navigating vast numbers of issues/years.
For example, see the landing pages for the
Statutes of Newfoundland,
the
MUN Gazette or the
The Evening Telegram.
The collection of Memorial University theses that once appeared on the DAI can be found on the
Research Repository.
