Halifax, May 12.
Sir William Young bequeathed one hundred
thousand dollars to city charities, and seventy
thousand to D^lhousie college.
William O'Brien reached Montreal yesterday.
All the leading Irishmen,following Father Dowd's
advice, held aloof, and the meeting on O'Brien's
arrival was quiet.
The St. John river is two feet higher than ever
before, causing immense destruction to property.
