Cited Quotation |
(46) STANEEN. Devine, 49: a water keg, made from a log of wood. cf. STAN, Dinneen. 1121 a: (1) tin, a tin vessel [b] etc.; [b] (2) a vat or vessel. Dinneen does not record, specifically, [b] STAININ, [b] which would mean (1) a little tin vessel (2) a little vessel. Clearly, the actual material used in the making of the vessel has ceased to matter in the Newfoundland usage of the word. |
