CBC warning crackdown on illegal parking By MICHAEL CONNORS Most students will tell you that finding a parking space on or near campus during the day is virtually impossible. With restrictions in obtaining permits and only a limited number of spaces available, many have had to find alternatives. One of those is the parking lot of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) building on Prince Philip Drive. So many students have been parking there that many CBC employees havebeen shut out of what is supposed to be a private lot. "We have staff coming in on some days and they can't find a space," said a CBC spokesman. "At some times during the day, almost 90 percent of the parking space is taken up by the students. We're pretty lenient in the evening when none of the staff are around, but during the day, we can't be." The problem was raised by the CBC's Engineering Department who are responsible for the grounds around the building. "[The CBC] came to the council to get the word out that they are enforcing this," said Darrell Hynes, V.P. Academic, Council of the Students' Union (CSU). "People think that these are CBC tickets when they're not, and they're going to face maior problems when they go to get their licenses renewed." The parking lot is clearly marked by signs saying that it is restricted to CBC employees only, but students for the most part seem to be ignoring this. 'The Regional Engineering Department is asking that students not use the parking space or they're going to start towing,"said the CBC spokesman. "Some of them are even obtainingparkingpermits and we don't know how they're doing it. Some of them have been expired for years." As for student reaction, there hasn't been any so far. "I haven't received any complaints from students yet," said Hynes. "But I think this shows the crisis that this University is fac- ine in Darking." THIS WEEK PULL OUT THE EXAM TIMETABLE FOR FALL 94
