THE FISHERIES COMMISSION Not a Satisfactory Report. The report of the Fisheries Commission, laid upon the table of the House, is quite a lengthy document, made up, chiefly, of matter that may be found in the reports of fishery superintendents and salmon wardens appearing in the Journals of the Legislature during the past twenty years. The frequency with which Mr. Neilson is referred to as an authority upon matters with which he can have no possible acquaintance, as operating in this country, leads to the thought that An Object U to be Nerved by this parade. It would require no large experience in our fisheries, or no great ability to compile from the Journals of the House of Assembly all that is important in this report, and a large amount of practical information in addition, respecting our fisheries. The matter is well worthy of examination, to ascertain how far the Fisheries Commission is answering the purposes of its origination. With this object in view, we shall devote some little attention to the matter, as our ftpaoe from time to time may admit. ARRIVAL OF THE "LEOPARD." The steamer Leopard arrived from the icefields this afternoon with 12,000 seals. Her reports arc similar to those received by previous arrivals. >^mmm^< LOCAL VARIETIES » Tin-; second part of kt Common SenseV able letter on the West Coast question must stand over till to-morrow.
