THIS fine hay stallion will stand for the season at Charles Hutchings' stables, at the corner of New Era grounds. General Gordon has ail the qualifications of a great sire. He is good-sized, good-colored, good-gaited, good-tempered, and ran trot himself. There is no richer blood Stallion in American than his sire Hernando, his (Hernando) sire, Almont 33, though living only from 1864 to 1884, is, just fancy, progenitor of 233 horses, with records from i>j 2.30. General Gordon's first dam was sired by a horse called Crown Prince, a trotter himself and a producer of speed; second dam by Black Prince; third by Salidin. Salidin was an imported horse, aud in his time was one of the fastest trotting horses on the island. For further particulars, inquire at the owner's stables, or at David Smai.i.wood's, Water Street. m Mil. SXALLWOOD : Sir,—ln stating my ideas about your trotting bred Stallion, I may say that I can highly recommend him to any breeding public, as is known, he is sired by a son (Hernando 2.370, of the great Almont. And his gait and formation which is only peculiar to the Almont's, show his ability to trot a 40 clip; he is sound as a nut, with short pasterns and good feet; he is Bay, with Black points, and has all the requirements of a serviceable sire horse, and his colts should make swift roadsters, with weight enough to pull a plough. To this son of Hernando is attributed speed enough to beat 40, and staying ability that will make him stay many heats at that clip. His dam was a fast and gamy young mare, and by people whoknow was said to carry a buggy a 2.50 gait, she was Royally bred, and in those days quite a trotter. Tt is pleasing to write of one so good; and with good wishes for his future, I am, yours, Andkew A. Leckie, M.R.C.V.S. * Chaulottetowx, P.E.1., May 19, 1890. • To Mu. General Gordon's young colts give promise of being excellent for carriage, road and general purposes. I would strongly recommend all those who require the use of such a horse to give him a trial.
