JOHN WEST ♦ Commits Suicide, THE BAIT ACT » Successfully Carried Out. ♦ (Special to the M Evening Telegram.") Burin, This Afternoon. An old man of Mortier Bay, named John West, committed suicide on Monday last. He left the house some time in the day, and in the evening his body was Found Hnng-lngfrom the beams of his stable. Instead of potting the rope around his neck, in the ordinary way, he placed it under his chin, thence up around his head. The cause of the rash act is unknown. Good Work by the Flonu. Reliable information from St. Pierre says the Bait Act is carried out very effectively, as there has not been a barrel of herring carried there since the Fiona came on. Some of our banking fleet have left for Fortune Bay. The rest will follow shortly. Lobster fishing operations are being pushed forward vigorously. >-*»*~-< Halifax, N.S., April IG.
